"One road leads to home and a thousand roads lead into the wilderness."
CS Lewis
Yesterday we looked at how easy it is to wander away from home. There are many roads that lead to the wilderness. Today we focus on the One Road that leads to home.
My Garmin can take me virtually any where. I've been to DC and Indy with it. I've gone to local business meetings with its aid. But without a doubt, my favorite button on the Garmin says, "Go Home" on it.
Last month I drove 3000 miles away from home. At the end of each trip I got to push the magic button that takes me home. There is only one road that leads to my home and I am glad when I am there.
Read: John 14:1-7; Acts 4:12
1-4 "Don't let this throw you. You trust God, don't you? Trust me. There is plenty of room for you in my Father's home. If that weren't so, would I have told you that I'm on my way to get a room ready for you? And if I'm on my way to get your room ready, I'll come back and get you so you can live where I live. And you already know the road I'm taking."
5 Thomas said, "Master, we have no idea where you're going. How do you expect us to know the road?"
6-7 Jesus said, "I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him. You've even seen him!"
Acts 4:12
Salvation comes no other way; no other name has been or will be given to us by which we can be saved, only this one."
Think:
What marvelous and exclusive truth! Jesus tells His followers that they can live where he lives ... in His home.
There are thousands of roads that lead to many places but only one Road that leads to the home that Jesus built. There is only one Road that leads to eternal life.
Jesus Christ is THE ROAD to God! He is the only road. He says that "no one" will get to the Father apart from walking on this Road. No one will get to the Father except by Jesus Christ.
For 2000 years Christians have spilled their own blood in defense of this claim. The world thinks this too exclusive. The world wants options. The world wants many paths to a home. However, there is but one Road that leads to home. The other roads lead to the wilderness.
Do:
No matter what wilderness you find yourself in, you can always push the "Go Home" button and ask God to forgive you. He will. He wants to.
How do you get on this road? Recognize that you are not on the road. Recognize that you are in the wilderness. Ask Jesus to forgive you for missing the road. Confess that He is the only Road to heaven. Confess that He is Lord. Believe that God raised Him from the dead to prove that He was the only Road. He will save you. You will be able to live where He lives!
Christian, are you thankful today for having a God that prepares homes for you? Is your life marked by gratefulness to God for His kindness toward you in Christ Jesus? Are you sharing this message with your friends that are wandering in the wilderness?
