Revelation: An Open Door

Intro:
On my Facebook wall I have a "piece of flair" that reads: "Automatic DOORS make me feel like a JEDI". I don't know about you, but that cracks me up! I love that kind of thinking.

I imagine myself standing in front of the door, right hand raised with fingers squished together and making that authoritative motion that is to make anything I want happen. Like Obewan Kenobi coming into town with Luke and telling them, "These are not the droids you are looking for." Something in the magic fingers and that wooshing motion that makes things happen.

If that last geek paragraph didn't work for you then you can move on! :)

Jesus has the authority and ability to make things happen! He can open and close doors with his will. He has Jedi skills, if you will. What we would love to be able to do ...... have the power to make things happen .... Jesus can do.

Read: Revelation 3:7-13; Isaiah 22:20-23
7"To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:
These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. 9I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you. 10Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth. 11I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. 12Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name. 13He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Isaiah 22:20-23
20 "In that day I will summon my servant, Eliakim son of Hilkiah. 21 I will clothe him with your robe and fasten your sash around him and hand your authority over to him. He will be a father to those who live in Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. 22 I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 23 I will drive him like a peg into a firm place; he will be a seat of honor for the house of his father.

Think:
Jesus holds the key of David (v. 7). When David was anointed king he was told that his kingdom would last forever and that he would bring the covenant promises to bear on Israel and the world. What was promised to Abraham would be initiated by David and fulfilled by Jesus Christ.

Jesus holds the key of David. He has the authority and ability to open and close doors on kings, kingdoms, governors and the governed. He has the authority and ability to open and close doors related to covenant promises as well. He is the king.

He can open doors of salvation for us and our friends. He is constantly opening doors. He opens doors for Asia. He opens doors for Africa. When these doors are open NO ONE can shut them. Not even a Jedi! No one.

However, he can also shut doors. When the opportunity is done he closes a door. This is a one time event. He shuts the door and NO ONE can reopen it. Apparently there is a place and time when the door is shut by the Lord. I am not sure why this happens but it does. America might have some lost opportunities going on right now. America might have a closed door at this season. Asia was closed for many years.

Maybe this is why we are told that today is the day of salvation and IF your hear his voice do not harden your hearts. It is as if this is the time the door is open. If you hear his voice and the door is open then it is time to respond. It is the day of salvation. It is the time.

The One who has the key of David has the authority and ability to open and close doors.

Do:
Where is God working today? Where are the open doors? Who is the Lord working on around you? What open doors are available in your life today?

The One who has the authority and ability to do great things is in charge of your life and he has some open doors ready for you to walk through today. You just might hear a voice behind you saying, "This is the way, walk in it."

Do you know someone who is lost and needs to know Christ? If so, pray that a door will be opened and also pray that you will recognize when that happens. Sometimes we are guilty of forcing things open. It never works out well. Find out what God is doing and join Him in it!
